A Visit To Serenity Therapy And Health Centre (Serenity THC)

After meeting Pei See Sew and her business partner Ooi Kean Hin when they taught a short Taiji Ball course, I wanted to interview them about their Serenity Therapy and Health Centre. I was keen to experience their unique therapy called Serenity Holistic Approach which is based upon Zhineng Qigong but also includes tuina, external qi healing and self-healing exercises which clients practise at home.

Along with my wife Suzanne, I arrived at the centre which looked a bit unwelcoming from the outside. We were met there by both Ms Sew and Mr Ooi. However, once up the stairs and into the centre, it was a bright and welcoming space with one main room, a couple of small treatment rooms and a storage room for all the information therapy (iTherapy) equipment. I’ll talk about iTherapy later.

On arrival we spent quite some time discussing what’s going on in the world of Zhineng Qigong. I have been studying qigong for many years but not in a very serious way. Shortly after retiring in Penang, Malaysia, my wife and I met Alexandre Shoemann who was a teacher at the Pulau Tikus Zhineng Qigong Centre in Taman Berjaya and started going to classes there.

Since then we have been practising regularly and earlier this year went to do a three month teacher training in China with the Daohearts group of Zhineng Teachers. Looking for more training we learned of a Taiji Ball course offered by Serenity THC.

I had watched some Youtube videos of talks from both Mr. Ooi and Ms Sew. In chatting to them, one of the main things that comes across is their dedication to bringing professionalism to Zhineng Qigong. They are very keen on setting learning outcomes so that the student is very clear what to learn and how long it will take to get results. There are so many methods and techniques in Zhineng Qigong that it’s very easy for students to have no clear idea about what they should be practising. Serenity THC makes it very clear by highlighting the core practices.

My Personal Experience of Serenity Holistic Approach

After an interesting conversation, it was time for my therapy. The basis of the therapy is to identify the key causative factor of any health condition and their method to do this is to use extrasensory perception (ESP).

When asked what my health conditions were, I challenged them to tell me! I was told I had a compression in my lumbar which was making me raise my head up and back instead of holding it level. Also, my diaphragm was not descending fully affecting my breathing.

I was then shown several simple exercises to practise twice per day including breathing into the side ribs for two minutes and massaging a point on my sternum for five minutes. I could already feel a change in my lower back after doing the exercises and my breathing felt deeper.

Information Therapy

Information Therapy is a new system developed by Mr. Ooi but based on previous work by other researchers such as Robert G. Jahn, Pang Ming (founder of Zhineng Qigong) and William Tiller.

Robert G. Jahn

Robert Jahn founded the Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research (PEAR) laboratory in 1979. Over many years he conducted a random event generator experiment and accumulated substantial evidence that human intention could affect the generator so that the results were no longer random. This was done from a distance.

William A. Tiller

William A. Tiller Ph.D is a professor emeritus of materials science and engineering at Stanford University and a researcher at his own Institute for Psychoenergetic Science. He has demonstrated that human intention can affect physical matter. One example was repeatedly changing the acid/alkaline balance (pH) of water by consciously holding a clear intention to do so. Then, he demonstrated that a specific human intention could be stored in electric circuitry of an electronic device which he calls an Intention Host Device (IHD). He also used an IHD to transmit healing to people at a distance.

iTherapy For Children

Serenity THC uses a similar method which involves recording a healing intention onto an MP3 player/recorder while looking at a picture of the person to be healed. The mp3 device is then stored in a box along with the photo and plays the healing intention 24 hours per day. Mr. Ooi had found that treating children with autism and similar neurological disorders, a daily treatment was required for effective results. This proved to be very taxing on both the therapist and the parent. For this reason, Mr. Ooi had stopped treating these type of patients until he developed iTherapy. The use of iTherapy overcomes this problem and allows children to get treatment for 24 hours per day. Parents are very satisfied with the results.

Conditions Treated by Serenity Therapy and Health Centre

A wide range of illnesses have been treated at Serenity THC including cancer. They particularly specialise in ergonomic problems (such as lower back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain or numbness, knee problems and slipped discs), insomnia, lack of focus, anxiety, shortness of breath and scoliosis.

Information therapy is particularly suited for children with conditions such as autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, dementia, Parkinson’s Disease, emotional problems, bad temperament, lack of focus and slow learning.

Courses in Zhineng Qigong Offered By Serenity Therapy and Health Centre

Lift Qi Up, Body and Mind Form and Taiji Ball 1 are traditional Zhineng Qigong forms introduced by Dr. Pang Ming, the founder of Zhineng Qigong.

Courses in Serenity Holistic Approach

These courses provide foundation work for developing a healthy body and mind and provide a foundation for people wishing to become qigong therapists. People who are serious in their qigong practice can move to a higher level.

This module covers the foundation understanding of qi and the pathological perspective of Zhineng Qigong, anatomy especially as relevant to loosening the lower back and spine. Participants will loosen the first, second and third lumbar vertebrae within one year and learn to manage their emotions. It includes Straight Leg Sitting, special trainings on membranous tissue and learning to practise and teach Lift Qi Up efficiently.

Module 2

Research into the Self and consciousness. Further loosening of the lumbar.

Module 3

Clinical training including therapeutic massage, external qi therapy and distance healing intention.

The Serenity Therapy and Health Centre Therapists

Pei See Sew and Ooi Kean Hin

Ms Sew has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and worked for 10 years in a multinational company as a specialist in streamlining and improving procurement processes. She was also involved in in-house training. Her experience in coaching, mentoring and leading a project team was very useful in launching Serenity THC in partnership with Mr. Ooi in November 2014. She had started practising Zhineng Qigong in August 2008. She was feeling weak after an operation to remove uterine fibroids. Within a few month of qigong practice she had already developed some ESP.

She has conducted in workshops overseas e.g: The Netherlands, New York, Italy, Czech Republic and has been training up a few hundred students worldwide via online training.

Mr Ooi has a Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy and is a government appointed industry expert on Therapeutic Massage and Qigong Therapy. His main practice is at Island Zhineng Qigong Centre and at Serenity THC on Saturdays. He began Zhineng Qigong practice in 1987 but did not practise very seriously. However, in 1999 he had a renal colic attack – his left kidney had many kidney stones. He was operated on the next day to remove the stones and his left kidney function was down to 10 or 15 per cent. The doctor said it may recover to 30 per cent. After leaving the hospital Mr. Ooi practised qigong for five to six hours a day and within six months his kidney function was up to 97 per cent. Nowadays he practises around two hours per day. He began teaching Zhineng Qigong in 1999.

Mr. Ooi teaches workshops abroad and regularly teaches the Serenity Holistic Approach modules online.

Both Mr Ooi and Ms Sew are Certified Qigong Therapists and Tuina Therapists. They developed a series of simple therapeutic exercises for clients which they named Serenity Holistic Therapy. Clients can have consultations in person or using online video conferencing such as Skype, Zoom etc.
