If you love being outdoors and want a challenge, then hiking on Penang Hill with a group of fit and fantastic people might be for you. Read this article written by Claire Firth about the Penang Hill hiking group.

I can’t think of a better way to start the week than going for a hike. Every Monday morning at 8.30am, the Penang Hill hiking group meet in the car park, by the juice bar, on the road to the Botanical Gardens.

The group is made up of mainly ladies and the occasional brave gentleman who are all ready and eager to hike the steep paths of Penang Hill. Even though It’s very hot and very physical, there is a lot of fun conversation to keep you motivated.

Penang Hill Hiking

There are many paths and trails on Penang Hill. Some of them are very popular and defined paths, but there are also some less defined trails which take you right through the heart of the jungle. On our hikes we have spotted lots of different wildlife, from monkeys to big toads and the occasional snake. We even came across a wild boar one week. Don’t worry – they keep their distance and are not aggressive.

There’s something wonderful about hiking and being surrounded by the tropical environment. I really love the sights, smells and sounds of the jungle and the final reward, spectacular views of Penang.

Penang Hill Hiking

Joining the Penang Hill hiking group is a great way to combine socializing, exercise and nature. If you like all of these things, then please come and join us. All you need are good walking shoes and plenty of water to keep you hydrated.

We are usually out for about two hours and then at the end we treat ourselves to a nice fresh juice from the juice bar. Delicious!
